“This past summer was my first experience with 825 Marching Brass. I was on tour with the world champion and high brass winning drum corps. I have been teaching DCI hornlines since 1990 so I have seen it all, from the old G Bugles to the advent of Bb/F hornlines.
These horns are the real deal. First and foremost they have the one hallmark of quality instruments- predictability bell to bell. These horns have stable pitch tendencies from one horn to the next. This is not always the case. Aside from stable pitch tendencies the quality of sound is outstanding. The ability to control the color of sound over time is a very rare quality. Depending on the style being presented, the players have complete control over this aspect. If you need a brighter sound for one part of the show and a darker sound for another, these horns can do this very, very well.
Aside from the predictability piece, the other more practical trait you want in marching instruments is durability. The production this past summer was tough on the horns as the performers were putting the horns up and down off the turf numerous times during the show. The only repairs that were needed were dent issues. No brace issues. No valve issues. No slide issues. Just dents that occurred during rehearsal and shows. That’s unheard of! Again considering the demands placed on these horns physically, it speaks to the quality of construction.
When you combine the durability and the quality of sound of these horns, I would recommend these horns everyday and twice on Sunday. Add the affordability and you cannot go wrong. Marching Horns are a long term investment and 825 Brass WILL NOT disappoint.”
